ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 314
Ara's upset about the comments on his recent Gamasutra.com article - http://fwd4.me/E3o - so we're led to clarify his intentions and further consider the difficulty of combining narrative and gameplay. Go read it and email us your thoughts. Alon questions the motives of Playboy in its appeal to the gamer demographic.

ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 313
Ara wrote an article for Gamasutra.com - The Uneasy Merging of Narrative and Gameplay. We talk about it.

ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 312
ChatterBox has now officially been on the air for over six years. Though we don't do anything out of the ordinary to celebrate, we do have a great show. Maybe it's because Rich is gone. We discuss the upcoming XBOX 360 controller from Razer, we interview Ashish Mistry from KontrolFreek.com, and we tell stories of 8-bit pranksters and durability tests. FYI, get 10% off products from KontrolFreek.com with the code CHATBOX. Ara kind of loves their stuff, so you might too.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 311
Alon and Rich return from CES with stories of porn stars and boredom. Alon and Ara give an etymology lesson. We're reminded, once again, that gamers often don't know what they want.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 310
It's 2010, and we haven't heard a peep about the next generation. Are game reviews valid, useless, or just flawed? Why did Alon spend any time playing at all playing Assassin's Creed II?
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 309
In this episode, we learn all about pachinko machines, satire in video games, and pricing disparity. We also learn about how much Pen loves Modern Warfare 2.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 308
Ara and Danny Baranowsky take the reigns while Alon is away for the holiday.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 307
Due to popular (or singular) demand, we return to the topic of review scores and how they affect game sales. While we're at it, we consider how advertising, like cover art, might affect sales as well.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 306
Is it okay to take advantage of a bug in a game? Forza 3 players are faced with this question right now. In other news, Alon bought a Killer Instinct machine, Ara can't stand the Critter Crunch character, and no one really understands Bayonetta.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 305
Alon continues to love New Super Mario Bros. Wii and goes on about the well-developed multiplayer components; Ara continues to hate Project: Natal and goes on about how Mark Whitten, General Manager for XBOX Live, is a bit of a tart; and both go on about some less meaningful topics like the lawsuit of the day and the objectification of the male and female form in gaming.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 304
Always one to educate, Ara explains in deep detail why your television sucks. After playing Drag Me Home on the iPhone, he revisits the definition of a casual game and suggests it's actually the player who's casual, not the game. Finally, he and Rich debate whether or not Microsoft has a responsibility to those whose XBOX 360 consoles it has banned from XBOX Live.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 303
Everyone's been talking about Modern Warfare 2, and wouldn't you know it... killing swarms of civilians is just too much fun. As a result, though, we revisit the question of how interactivity is affected by narrative.

ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 301
While we're busy forgetting to mention that there's no show next week, we do remember to complain about reviewers who don't complain about Demon's Souls - apparently Ara is a big fan of consistency. And words. He pushes Rich and Josh to express themselves in an effort to explain what makes Borderlands so "good". It's not so easy.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 300
For this very special episode, number 300, we've got Justin Wong, virtual street fighter extraordinaire. For extra credit, check out the EmpireArcadia.com website.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 299
Remember when Ara whined about Demon's Souls and how he couldn't even get past the first stage? He felt strongly enough about this game that he arranged for Alon and Rich to experience it as well. They didn't get much further... In other news, Gabe Newell is pretty awesome. We also bring you some World of Goo sales stats and find out just how cheap gamers can be.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 298
Although Ara opens up the show with a heated response to Demon's Souls, this week is really all about Adam Atomic and Danny Baranowsky. If you haven't played Canabalt for free at AdamAtomic.com or payed some cash money to play it on the iPhone/iPod touch, you're missing out.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 297
In the spirit of the season, we've devoted this week to evil. In studio, we have Greg and Jonah of Evil Controllers. You know who they are... they're the ones who modify controllers so you can be a big, fat cheater. Pretty nice guys, actually, with some pretty sweet gear, even if they do totally break the game. You can learn more at evilcontrollers.com, or just listen to the show.

ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 296
Reverend Anthony Burch joins us this week for a candid look into what it means to be a true worldwide internet sensation. Or not. We may just sit around and talk a bit about his nifty videos and what he thinks Konami's new Tornado Outbreak game could be. Turns out, by the way, that he was pretty much on the mark. He also wants to push the new series, Once Upon A Pixel, available soon (or now) at GameTrailers.com, so go check that out.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 295
This week, we have Danny Baranowsky to talk about making music for video games. There's also quite a bit of discussion about Civilization Revolution since Alon just discovered how wonderful it is.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 294
Evony may lie, cheat, steal, or flash a bit of boob, but they don't want you knowing about it. Scribblenauts is awesome, confusing, weird, cute, annoying, tricky, and a few other things, though we have no idea what it actually tries to do. Dirt 2, however, actually wants to be annoying... and Bobby Kotick, well, he's annoying whether or not he tries to be.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 293
Back from PAX, Alon tells the story of embarrassing himself in front of Anthony Burch. Ara joins in the fun by telling a story about his first anime convention back in 1994. We chat a bit about the new and questionably improved PlaySwitch.com game trading service - Ara has mixed feelings about it. Also, get ready for some serious bitching about Argentinian news reporters and controller mod cheaters.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 292
Like so many others, Alon and Rich are big fans of James Silva's "I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1". James phones in to tell us about the grueling week-and-a-half he spent making the game that's currently at the top of the XBOX Live Arcade Indie Games rankings. Also, in preparation for this week's 2009 PAXevent, we pit him against Ara in a ChatterBox TreasureBox 2007 standoff.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 291
It turns out Shadow Complex is actually kind of fun, but gay folks aren't totally happy with it. Instead, they're setting up internet boycotts. At the same time, there's another group running hijinx on Victoria and her secret. All along, Miss Bayonetta is playing games without you.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 290
The big news today is the PlayStation 3 Slim, but we don't know why it's big news. Aside from that uninteresting bit, you'll hear us talk about old Genesis games, Trials HD for XBOX Live Arcade, how UFC's Dana White showed some sac, why Little Big Planet is getting a little bigger, and just how broken the XBOX 360 is.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 289
Like a white knight to save us all, the XBOX 360 update is finally here. Best new feature? It's now even easier to avoid ever meeting your new WoW girlfriend in real life... Telling us about ASU's new gaming certificate program and a bit about Camp Game is Ara's colleague, Ashish Amresh... Alon tells us why he likes casual games and urges you all to try out the newest XBOX Live Arcade game, Trials HD, from RedLynx.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 288
Alon tries to convince Ara that Scribblenauts is going to be awesome. Aaron and Brian from The Game Cage are in-studio to tell us about their business plan to rent games through kiosks a la RedBox.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 287
Game Informer reminds Alon what magazines are good for, EA reminds all of us what boobs are good for, Nintendo reminds us what the Wii is good for, and Ara goes on some weird rant about RPGs that no one plays anymore, reminding us why we just shouldn't talk about RPGs anymore.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 286
People around the globe are getting ready to add their own music to Rock Band through XNA. The Valve community is getting all uppity because the developers actually listened to them. Scott called in and made us think about what games are good for new gamers and why. We wrap it up with more discussion about GameStop and its impact on the universe as a whole.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 285
This week, we learn that it's not OK to pee on your iPhone unless you're a bear. We also learn (again) that 1 VS 100 actually has a good scoring mechanic. The Fight Night control scheme comes under fire again while being compared to Dance Dance Revolution. Lastly, we question if online gay bashing is really homophobia or just stupidity.
-
ChatterBox Video Game Radio - Show 284
We don't all agree with how EA plans to provide the new, but old, control scheme to Fight Night: Round 4 players. We do all agree that the recently discovered Donkey Kong easter egg is weird, and sorta neat. Alon discusses the nostalgia emotion and tells the tale of how it caused an apparent Golgotron civil war. Also, Ara takes issue with a professor who pissed of some City of Heroes devotees.
