"I have really enjoyed the show and recommend it to my gaming enthusiast friends who are trying to separate the wheat from the chaff among iTunes supported Podcasts. You generally cover topics in the game industry with intelligence and aplomb." -Tom

Wow, I liked a game

Just a quick blog while I kill some time at E3...

After Sony's press briefing, they ushered everyone into a game arcade area where we could try out their new stuff. Believe it or not, there were a few things I wanted to play. In fact, I bet I could have stayed there the whole day, but appointments prevented that.

I was pleasantly surprised by one game in particular, though. I suspect this will be a surprise for anyone who knows me because there's a whole lot of potential to just complain about this game...

Eye of Judgement . It's the game for the PS3 that uses the new EyeToy-style camera to see actual playing cards that you place on a game board (or just the table where the camera sits). Really, I'd enjoy it even if the camera weren't involved, but having the cards makes it feasible for single-system multiplayer gaming. Ironically, on-line multiplayer would also be good times, and would eliminate this need for your own deck that is hidden from your neighbor.

Anyway, it's just a puzzle game. I imagine those of you who play card battle games understand the idea, although the fact that this game has a playfield where character orientation is relevant makes it a bit different that your average Magic: The Gathering clone. Actually, I felt a lot like I was playing Catan on XBOX Live Arcade except with more interesting trash talking since the other player was sitting right next to me (I've begun to feel that XBOX Live trash talk is, like, so last season).

I question whether or not this game will be successful since people who play card battle games aren't used to taking several minutes per turn - the animations and card recognition takes some time and would be pretty annoying after I got better at the game - but if you have the chance to play it, I actually recommend it.

Total surprise, I know.
