Real World Golf - Mad Catz First of all, let me say how nice it is to be back. I haven't written a blog in months. It's not like we stopped doing the show or anything, but I've been busier than usual (that is to say that I've had at least something to do). Anyway, now that I'm done actually building the site, I can start to fill it with the sort of stuff you might actually come round to look at... Speaking of which, did you catch the random image on the front page of me in the perfect golf swing? Read on, my friend...
So I just got Real World Golf from Mad Catz today. It uses the GameTrak Game System controller which is something I think we saw at last year's E3. I didn't think that thing would ever see the light side of cash register, but it's here. Unfortunately, its first foray into my living room is attached to a golf game. In case you didn't already know, I'm not a huge fan of golf games. And, as golf games go, this one is particularly boring.
Luckily, it uses a pretty cool controller. For me, cool controllers make any game playable. At least for a few minutes.
OK, truth be told, the game is still boring, but this really is a cool controller. I'm pretty sure one of the demos we saw with it last year was a boxing game, though. That would have been infinitely better than golf. Still, the idea that the controller was smart enough to know that I was twisting the included miniature golf club was pretty inspiring. The downside here is that it would often get confused and think I was twisting it when I was holding the thing perfectly aligned and right over the base unit. Anyway, it was a cool experience. If I were you, I'd coax my rich friend into buying it so I could try it out for five minutes.
The bottom line, however, is that this sort of thing just makes me want the Nintendo Revolution more than ever. I heard today that they're gonna come out of the gate with about 20 games. I also read that they know they need to have killer launch titles - none of that Luigi's Mansion crap. I just know that Nintendo is hiding the best Mario game ever up their sleeve, and I am getting more ready by the day to put my entire tax return into that system. I still don't have my own XBOX 360, but if I don't have at least two controllers and five games for the Revolution the day it comes out, something's very wrong, people.
